Keira, 7th Grade — Cabot Junior High South

Hi, I’m Keira

I’m a 7th grader at Cabot Junior High South, and I love science — especially hands-on experiments and figuring out how things work.

I’ve always been curious about how things work. My twin sister and I have watched all of the old Bill Nye the Science Guy episodes more times than I can count, and that’s what really made science fun for me.

Now, science is one of my favorite subjects. I love doing hands-on labs and experiments, figuring things out, and learning by actually doing things instead of just reading about them.

Outside of school, I like building STEM kits, working on projects from CrunchLabs, and making slime — which I joke is my own way of exploring chemistry.

I’m also an honors student, a member of Science Club, and I’ve been lucky to receive the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence. I’ve also gone to Camp Invention for several years, which helped grow my interest in STEM even more.

I stay busy with competitive cheer at World Class Allstars, and while I can be a little shy at first, I really open up when I’m talking about things I love — especially science.

Right now, I’m competing in a national competition called America’s Favorite Student, and I’m currently in 1st place in my group. The round ends soon, and it’s really close.

While the $20,000 prize is exciting (my dad says that’s going toward college), what I’m most excited about is the chance to meet Bill Nye and tour The Planetary Society.

If you’d like to support me, you can vote once every 24 hours. It only takes a few seconds, and those daily votes are what make the biggest difference right now.
